During the procedure, performed by Dr. Andrew Dossett, a disc was removed and the C4/C5 vertebrae were fused. This was the second such operation for Dossett in as many days. On Wednesday, the Dallas-based doctor repaired the same vertebrae on Cowboys wide receiver Raghib Ismail.

The club expects Greer to be ready for Spring Training.

Once the 33-year-old outfielder recuperates sufficiently from the neck operation, he will undergo hip surgery.

Late scratch: The late scratch of Pedro Martinez Thursday because of threatening weather also resulted in a change in the Rangers lineup. Terry Francona, managing the first of two games for Jerry Narron, replaced Mike Lamb in the number-two hole with Kevin Mench in left field. The funeral for Narron's father, John, will be Friday morning in Goldsboro, N.C.

A pair of rehabs: Two pitchers in the midst of ongoing rehab stints saw work Thursday. Lefty Justin Thompson and right-hander Jovanny Cedeno each threw two innings for the Gulf Coast Rangers against the GCL Red Sox. Thompson allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out two and throwing 36 pitches. Cedeno (right shoulder) allowed just one hit and struck out three while throwing 31 pitches. Both are expected to finish the season on the DL.

Fantasy Edge: Chan Ho Park returns from the disabled list Friday to start the opener of the series at Yankee Stadium. The right-hander, coming back from a blister on his right middle finger, threw 80 pitches in a start on a rehab assignment for Oklahoma City on Sunday. Park lost his last start on Aug. 6 against Detroit, when he allowed five hits and three runs in three innings. He is 1-1 in his last three starts and will be facing the Yankees for the first time in his career.
